The US Open, officially the United States Open Tennis Championships, is a Grand Slam tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York City. It is the fourth and final of the year’s four Grand Slam events, and is played on hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The US Open was first played in August 1881, and is one of the oldest tennis championships in the world.
The 2025 US Open is underway at Flushing Meadows, with a host of American players looking to make an impact in New York City. Reigning champion Novak Djokovic begins the week with a match against Britain’s Cameron Norrie, while home hope Ben Shelton plays Reilly Opelka. Rising talent Taylor Fritz, the 2024 runner-up, and Frances Tiafoe add to the American contingent, with Coco Gauff also making her way into the third round of the women’s main draw.
This year, the US Open’s schedule has been extended to 15 days, giving fans more matches to attend and allowing players to receive an extra day of rest between rounds. The tournament began Monday with qualifying matches and will conclude on Sept. 6 and 7 with the men’s and women’s singles finals. In addition to the main draw, the US Open features junior, senior and wheelchair competitions. The US Open is played on acrylic hardcourts at the U.S. Tennis Association’s Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens-Corona Park, New York City.
