Asian Games 2026

Asian Games 2026 is an event celebrating athleticism, culture and unity, with competitors from across the continent showcasing their skill in a variety of sports. From the precision of martial arts to the speed of track and field, the heart of Japan will pulsate with energy from athletes competing in a myriad of events.

The 2026 edition of the Asian Games is being held from September 19 to 4 October in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City, Japan. It will be the third time that Japan has hosted the Games, following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994.

Aichi-Nagoya will have all the infrastructure needed to host a successful Asian Games, including the ‘Games Village’ where athletes will stay during their competitions. However, this year’s Games will be taking place in September and October — which is peak typhoon season in Japan, which sits on the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’. This means that the ‘floating village’ might be a little bit more challenging than usual, as athletes will have to make contingency plans in case of severe weather.

In terms of sports, the Organizing Committee (AINAGOC) has finalized the list of 32 events that will be featured at the Games, which are expected to attract over 50,000 participants. Of the 32 events, 12 will be new additions to the Asian Games.

Besides the main venues, there will be nine more regional centres where competitions will be held. Besides, there will be shuttle buses between the main venues and the nearest public transport stations in order to aid spectator movement. All 45 National Olympic Committees who are members of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) are expected to send delegations to the Games.
