The Asian Games 2026

The 2026 Asian Games (also known as the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games or Aichi-Nagoya 2026) will be a multi-sport event organized by the Olympic Council of Asia and hosted by the cities of Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026. 15,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries and regions are expected to participate.

This marks the third time that Japan has hosted the Asian Games, following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. As the country sits on the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire,’ contingency plans have been made to evacuate athletes in case of natural disasters like earthquakes or typhoons. For example, it was decided that 4,600 athletes and officials would stay on a cruise ship at the Port of Nagoya, while another 2,400 will be accommodated at a pier nearby.

In addition to traditional Olympic sports, the Asian Games will feature many regional sports such as kabaddi and sepak takraw. This mix reflects the diversity of Asia and will give spectators a chance to experience competitions that are not often seen outside of their home countries.

Esports will feature 11 medal-contending titles at this edition of the Asian Games, four more than the 2023 Hangzhou games and in line with the sport’s increasing prominence. The WDSF encourages National Member Bodies to start preparations for their Breaking athletes to compete at this milestone event, further cementing the importance of this DanceSport discipline in the global athletic landscape.
